Peter Richards, Senior Artist in the Exploratorium’s Center for Learning and Teaching, along with Frank Oppenheimer, founded the museum’s Artist in Residence Program which commissions artists to create works that explore the boundaries of art and science. He was also co-founder of the McCall Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, North Carolina and has served as a consultant for numerous museums and educational institutions in architectural design and program development. He is an artist who has created public art installations in both Europe and the United States. His best known work, Wave Organ, is a wave activated sound sculpture located on the edge of San Francisco Bay in San Francisco.
